In 2006, a new style of barista competition was born, reflecting the reality that in cafes baristi must work as a team to serve a variety of milk-based drinks. Competitors work as a team to create ten piccolo lattes, ten regular lattes and ten designer lattes in fifteen minutes or less.
After narrowly winning the first round on Australian soil, the Aussie Baristaroos defeated New Zealand’s Black Cups 257 to 218 to take home the title. Whilst Australia’s scores were higher across the board, the biggest lead was established in the taste category for the standard latte, where Australia scored 50 to New Zealand’s 35.
Veneziano Speciality Coffee Roasters sponsored our own David Makin and Con Haralambopoulos, as well as providing the team’s decaf blend.
