Cafe Spotlight: Morris Leigh, Aspendale

Cafe Spotlight: Morris Leigh, Aspendale

Opening in February this year, it hasn’t taken long for Matt and the team at Morris Leigh to make headway in the beach suburb of Aspendale. Giving new life to an existing café space opposite Aspendale station, Morris Leigh has become a popular pit-stop for locals looking to grab a great coffee or bite to eat on their way to work or pre/post a morning dip.

A sparkling white Linea PB mirrors white washed walls and the abundance of greenery gives the space a very relaxed vibe. The minimalist fit out is the handy work of Matt, his partner and her dad  – they even built the tables themselves!

With Matt keen to prove that eating well can still be delicious, the all-day menu focuses on fresh, wholesome food. Vegan options are generous and whilst there are still some decadent items, it’s quality, seasonal ingredients that hero many of its dishes.

A cult favourite of our VIC State Sales Manager Jamie is the zucchini medley salad and it’s not hard to see why. Beautiful heirloom green and yellow grilled zucchini, crispy chickpeas, toasted almonds, currants, basil, ricotta salata and a vierge dressing. It’s a medley of many for sure, but it works wonderfully. The sweeter end of the spectrum offers a beautiful stack of fluffy pancakes bejewelled with fresh berries, ice-cream, cacao nib crumb and warm chocolate sauce. And for those having trouble deciding between savoury or sweet, or who love a bit of everything, the breakky board is a go-to – granola with coconut yogurt, smashed avo and orange juice.

On the coffee front, Morris Leigh serve Forza on espresso and showcase our single origins on batch. Oh and the name? It’s a nice little amalgamation of Matt and his late father’s middle names!

Address: 142C Nepean Hwy, Aspendale VIC 3195 Hours: Monday to Friday 7am – 2pm, Weekends 8am – 3pm,  Coffee: Veneziano Coffee Roasters – Forza Facebook: @morris.leigh.cafe Instagram: @morris.leigh.cafe
