To coincide with International Women’s Day this March, we’re excited to showcase two new (and delicious!) releases from the Matão Women in Coffee group (Mulheres do Café). The group was formed in 2013 and comprises 24 female coffee producers from Matão. In 2015 the group placed first in the Paraná quality contest, with a lot produced by Eloir Nogueira de Souza. With selective picking being a rarity in Brazil, the group has seen their quality increase exponentially and is being rewarded for their hard work. Like many produces in the world, up until recently these women had never tasted their own coffee and now they are undertaking cupping education programs so that they can learn to identify lots that stand-out in quality. For the future, the group wants to continue to make excellent coffee, increase quality and production, as well qualify and prepare these women to identify their coffees. We’ve been involved in this exciting project for the last couple of years, but this is the first time showcasing the work of Dulcineia. For a limited time, we’re offering a Matão Women in Coffee (Mulheres do Café) pack, featuring this Catuai varietal, and a natural pulped Bourbon from Maristela Souza, whose work we also showcased last year. This pack is available for $32 (RRP when purchased separately $36)
You may have noticed that we have stopped labelling some coffees as “Filter Roast Profile”. We felt that our previous labelling of microlots did not do justice to our coffees and what we think they are capable of. We want you to feel free to use the coffee any way you like. Read more here.
