David Makin runner up in World Barista Championship 2008

After many months of preparation David Makin went to the World Barista Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark this year with a large support crew and over 240 kg of excess luggage!

David was the only competitor on day 2 to qualify for the finals. The top 6 scoring competitors made it to the final in a field of of over 50 nations this year.

The whole of the World Barista Championships was streamed live on the internet this year for the first time. You can view all qualifier performances as well as the final.

David narrowly missed out on being crowned the World Barista Champion by a mere 5 points out of over a 1000 possible points! Congratulations to Stephen Morrissey from Ireland, the 2008 World Barista Champion and a job extremely well done from Team Australia and David Makin for placing Australia the highest it has ever reached since 2001.

In other news, Con Haralambopoulos from 7 Grams Cafe in Richmond has been crowned the World Latte Art Champion. This is the third year in a row Australia has won this title, with Scottie Callaghan and Jack Hanna winning in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
