About Burundi Ngogomo
Ngogomo takes its name from the hill where it all began, with a fisherman. When the fish disappeared from a nearby stream, he turned to coffee farming, drawn by the region's ideal climate and rich soils. His neighbours followed, and what started as one man's livelihood became a thriving community of 1,725 farmers across 18 hills in Muyinga province. Today, the Ngogomo washing station processes up to 1,500 metric tons of cherry each season, overseen by station manager Severin Nizigiyimana, with full washed processing across 10 fermentation tanks and 28 drying tables. The Red Bourbon variety thrives here, producing a cup that is clean and fruit-forward, with notes of orange juice, white nectarine and green apple.
