Cafe Spotlight: Pollen, Canberra

Set amidst the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Pollen is more than a café – it’s a destination. Fresh and vibrant with a focus on good food, specialty coffee and exceptional service, it really adds to the experience of visiting one of Australia’s cultural landmarks.

If you have visited BOOKPLATE at the Australian National Library in Canberra, you will know just how particular Tracy Keeley, owner of both venues, is when selecting the locations for her cafés. You will also be familiar with her exceptional styling, utilising on trend décor and generous florals for a high-end look.

Two years into her successful transformation of BOOKPLATE, Tracy looked to expand and add to her hospitality repertoire. When the opportunity of reinvigorating the existing kiosk within the Botanic Gardens came up, how could she resist?

Tracy and her team immediately set about adding light and vibrancy to the once dreary space. Whites and bright blues appeared along with open windows and fabulous details. She wanted to give her customers an experience to remember by creating a simple yet elegant space that complemented its standout location.

With a fresh and healthy menu, Pollen encourages guests to forget the outside world and take in the serenity of the gardens. The freshly made juices are a great touch to compliment the thoughtfully constructed food offerings. Each meal is plated beautifully, on handmade artisanal crockery – you can’t help but take that perfect Instagram shot. And the taste? Heavenly! Try the waffles, they’re a favourite.

Tracy is also a huge fan of specialty coffee and understands that the backbone of any respectable cafe is its coffee and Pollen couldn’t be a destination cafe without the perfect cup. Pollen uses our Estate blend to create a well-balanced cup of coffee for every customer – whether they like a short black or a decaf skinny latte on almond milk.

When life brings you to the nation’s capital, take some time to visit the Botanic Gardens and meander your way to Pollen for a tranquil break. Also, keep an eye out for the introduction of Garden High Teas later this year.
