This month, you might have noticed something different about your favourite Veneziano blends. We've rolled out brand new coffee bags across our entire range, and while they might look like a simple refresh, there's a whole lot more going on beneath the surface.
Our range of blends in their new packaging
Why we made the switch
The main reason? Our previous paper packaging didn't quite live up to our high hopes. They weren't reliable and didn't deliver on the sustainability promise we seek. Designed to be a curb-side recyclable coffee bag, it didn't quite pass the test. On top of that we also had some durability issues with a portion of the bags splitting, not ideal for keeping your beans fresh. We needed something that could easily be recycled, while keeping the beans inside continuing to taste amazing.
So we commenced the hunt for a better option.....and found it.
What's actually changed
We've swapped out the old paper-plastic hybrid bags for metallised polypropylene bags that are fully compliant with the CEFLEX standard (that's Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging, for those keeping track).
Now, we know what you're thinking. "Wait, you've gone from paper to plastic. How is that better?" Stick with us, because this is where it gets interesting.

Why plastic is the better option here
Counter-intuitive as it sounds, these new plastic bags are actually the more sustainable choice. Made from PolyPropylene (PP) and PolyEthylene (PE), the new bags are easier to recycle than the old bags which were a mix of paper and plastic. Mixed materials are tricky to separate and can’t be recycled efficiently.
These new bags use a few different plastics with similar melting points, giving them better value for plastic recyclers. They also carry the “Check Locally” ARL logo, letting you know they can easily be recycled. Head to the ARL website to find your nearest drop-off point.

Your coffee tastes better too!
Here's the added bonus. Plastic creates a stronger barrier against moisture and oxygen, which means your coffee stays fresher for longer if stored in these bags.
We've run extensive tests and conducted sensory tastings in our roastery and cafes to make sure every cup tastes as delicious as ever. Plus the bags are more robust than ever. No more split bags.
Always evolving, always improving
This packaging upgrade is just one example of how we're constantly looking at ways to make your coffee experience better. A reminder to look at what's working, and what's not and to keep evolving and striving for better - for you, your coffee and the planet.
