Alimentari a hit with Neil Perry!

Veneziano Coffee Roasters are really thrilled for our client cafe, Alimentari in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy (VIC), for making Neil Perry’s top three for ‘Breakfast in Melbourne’. Alimentari is a rustic, traditional-style corner deli serving up the very best of local and imported foods.

Neil Perry: Breakfast in Melbourne

31 August 2013

“Neil Perry offers three good reasons to add breakfast to the list of delicious taste treats to discover in Melbourne.A few months ago, I shared my favourite places to go for breakfast in Sydney. Now it is the turn of Melbourne, a town not short on cafes that serve seriously good coffee and delicious food. Picking just three venues was difficult, but, after much research, I managed to narrow it down to the following.
Alimentari (251 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, 03 9416 2001,alimentari.com.au) says its name is Italian for “good food” and this little cafe has been serving Fitzroy locals and visitors since 1998. I love coming here on my own and sitting by the window as the sun shines in, watching the eclectic folk of this funky neighbourhood pass by. Split into two rooms, Alimentari has a vintage look and a familial feel, with oodles of Italian produce on display. For breakfast, my go-to order is the corn cakes served with avocado salsa, bacon and a perfectly poached egg. It’s a dish that keeps me going for the majority of the day. Their deli-style counter is packed with temptations – many of them sweet – and it’s almost impossible to leave without some little dolci or other. The guys at Alimentari even sell take-home meals such as lasagne and arancini, perfect for those who want to savour a traditional Italian meal at home without having to go to any effort.”
