Café Granja La Esperanza (GLE) encompasses was founded in 1945 by Juan Antonia Herrera and Blanca Ligia Correa and now encompasses 5 farms in total; Cerro Azul, Las Margaritas, La Esperanza, Potosi and Hawaii. The GLE team are at the forefront of high quality coffee in Colombia, developing and tweaking processing methods of varietals not commonly found in Colombia, as well as using grafting to better adapt exotic coffee varieties to the Colombian climate. They are currently working on making the roots of the Gesha tree stronger, which they have grafted with a Sudan Rume, Yellow Bourbon and Laurina.
This year, we have purchased three lots from GLE. This lot is from Cerro Azul, located in the ideal microclimate for growing Gesha at 1,700 – 2,000m with a temperature variation of 15-21c. When compared with their XO process, this is a more traditional take on coffee process. After rigorous selection and hand picking, the cherries are de-pulped without water before being dried using a mix of patio and mechanical methods to control the final flavour profile. The result is an incredibly clean, complex cup.
Our Pinnacle Series is a selection of ultra-premium coffees, showcasing and celebrating the highest achievement in quality. These are coffees that are elusive, and unattainable – the kind that are saved for champion baristas and judges of the World Barista Championship. In very unique circumstances, we’re super excited to be able to release coffees of this kind as part of our first ever global virtual coffee tasting experience.
